ABOUT THE HONEST APRON
The one-woman operation creating beautiful pieces of edible art for every occasion.

Hello, I am Angelique Viljoen, owner and creator of all the beautifully hand-crafted items you will see at The Honest Apron. Originally beginning my career as a qualified graphic designer I decided to follow my passion and become a home-based vegan baker during the covid pandemic of 2020 and haven't looked back yet.
Since I can remember I was always defying the norm and marched to the beat of my own drum. I am a creative oddball, a jill of all trades and a bad mother cookier.
When going vegan 5 years ago I had to learn how to adapt my cooking skills in a new way. This sparked a passion in me as it became something I would challenge myself with. I merged my creative side with my love for sweet things and started making my one-of-a-kind quirky edible art.
Even though I have no formal training in cooking or baking I believe that I have great taste buds and a knack for flavour. I love experimenting with new recipes and learning new techniques. With my out-of-the-box thinking, I hope to bring an element of uniqueness to my bakes.
Just like my cakes I to rise to the occasion and push the boundaries of my craft while sharing my love for baked goods.
BAKING MY WAY TO TV
In May 2022, I decided to put my skills to the test and I applied to compete in a well know TV baking competition The Taste Master SA.
I was accepted as a contestant for Season 3 of The Taste Master SA and it was a life-changing experience, to say the least.
Being able to represent vegan baking on National Television in South Africa is not something I ever thought I would have the guts to do. I took part in gruelling challenges, attended the most spectacular master classes from the best chefs in our country and I got to meet 11 other bakers from all over the rainbow nation.
Competing in The Taste Master SA was definitely out of my comfort zone and pushed me to become better at my craft. I am honestly so grateful that I had this opportunity and the doors it has opened for me.
Being a home baker and teaching myself has its challenges. Every day I learn something new or have to figure out a new technique. Things become A LOT easier over time and with practice. My point is, if you believe in yourself and put in the hard work you really can do anything! So, go DO IT!
Sweet Blessings
